In contrast to the grittier and more urban themes of ‘Nee Naw 1‘, ‘Glitter Nee Naw’ brings a note of playfulness to this series exploring our constructions of public service. The cat on the roof of the ‘vehicle’ suggests a rescue has already taken place, while the sparkling objects that fill its body gesture towards positive progress in recognising and representing diversity within our changing communities. That these objects include a sparkling ‘memento mori’ serves to anchor an otherwise energetically progressive piece in that most eternal constant of the human condition.

Altogether a more optimistic piece, ‘Glitter Nee Naw’ suggests that while contemporary society faces many challenges, it can also be a place of solidarity and hope.
